Every year, a few dedicated members of UFO Monitors East Kent (UFOMEK), make various pilgrimages to conventions, lectures, and places of mystery and intrigue.

The photograph left, shows my friend Andy with the Rev. Lionel Fanthorpe, at the 1998 'Fortean Times Unconvention', in London. We had a really good day, and saw many different talks on all sorts of strange and diverse subjects. This is an annual event, so if you can, go check it out.

Also at the Unconvention, we get to meet other researchers who are there for the same reason as us. Hilary Evans (left), is one of my favourites. He has written many books on all areas of the paranormal, including a few on the UFO phenomenon. His wife, Mary Evans, collects photographs of everything, and runs the Mary Evans Picture Library, a valuable photographic resource that is used by magazines including the 'Fortean Times'.

Jenny Randles is probably one of the best-known names in the UK when it comes to Ufology, and certainly knows her onions! As an author of many books including 'The Complete Book of UFO's', co-written by Peter Hough, and others surrounding the 'Rendalsham Forest Incident'.

Jenny has also written countless articles for magazines and the like, and is editor of the 'Northern UFO News', (NUN).

 This chap is half the reason the Unconvention exists. Bob Rickard is co-editor and founder of the excellent 'Fortean Times'. He and Paul Sieveking started the magazine up many moons ago, and have been going strong ever since, publishing books and articles in the reputable national press has done them a lot of good, sometimes even bringing the oddest of pursuits into a more respectable light! Many startling stories have appeared in the 'Times' over the years, and I sometimes wonder how Bob can sleep at night!
